Subject: Circulation of Clarification on the Properties and Usage of Aadhaar by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
Madam/Sir,
This office has received a D,O. No. 130651112024-AUTH-I HQ/C-1450012797 dated October 8, 2025 (copy enclosed), from the UIDAI, regarding the properties and permissible usage of the Aadhaar number and related documents.
2. The UIDAI has intimated the following clarifications:
(i) An Aadhaar number may be used for establishing the identity of the Aadhaar number holder subject to authentication or offline verification.
(ii). An Aadhaar number or the authentication thereof, is not a proof of citizenship or domicile in respect of Aadhaar number holder.
(iii). Aadhaar number is not a proof of date of birth and hence, must not be used for establishing the date of birth of the Aadhaar number holder conclusively.
3. It is requested to circulate it to all concerned for information and necessary guidance. Same may also be placed on the notice board of all Post Offices in public area.
4. This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority.
