OFFICE MEMORANDUM
Subject : Review of existing identified Local Languages for GDS Engagement in the offices located in the State of Nagaland – reg.
Attention of all concerned is hereby invited towards the OM of even number dated 25.03.2021 regarding the provision of local language for the engagement as Gramin Dak Sevaks.
2. The Department has reviewed the local languages identified for the purpose of engagement of Gramin Dak Sevaks in respect of offices of the Department located in the State of Nagaland, and the following modification has been approved by the Postal Services Board in this respect:
Nagaland :
a) That henceforth, the ‘local language of Nagaland for the purpose of engagement of GDS’ in the state of Nagaland will be as under:
“English or Hindi [as compulsory or elective subject] studied at least upto 10th standard and knowledge of any of the 19 tribal local languages/dialects, notified by the Govt. of Nagaland vide notification no. HOME/LAN-23/02/2024 dated 16.12.2025.”
b) That for GDS engagement in the Offices of Nagaland, the proficiency/knowledge in the tribal local languages/dialects may be ascertained based on certification issued by the concerned Deputy Commissioners of the respective District, as these languages/dialects are not taught upto 10th Standard at present in schools.
3. The list of 19 tribal local languages/dialects, notified vide ibid notification, the Govt. of Nagaland is provided in Annexure-I to this OM.
