Sub : Two Board Examinations in Class X from 2026 – Clarification reg.
CBSE has received few requests stating that because of some reasons, student will not able to appear in the 1st Board Examination of Class X, hence the student may be allowed to appear in 2nd Board Examination. In this regard, the relevant portion of scheme of 2nd Board Examinations is as follows :
- It is mandatory for all the students to appear in the first Board examination.
- All passed and eligible students will be allowed to improve their performance in any of the three subjects out of Science, Mathematics, Social, Science and languages.
- If a student has not appeared in 3 or more subject in first examination, then s/he will not be allowed to appear in the 2nd examination. Such students will be placed in the “Essential Repeat” category and can take the examination only next year in the main examinations in the month of February next year.
- For students whose result in the first examination is Compartment, such students will be allowed to appear in second examination under Compartment Category.
- Additional Subject will not be permitted after passing class X, students will not be allowed in stand-alone subjects.
- The eligibility to appear in the second examination will be:
- Improvement category up to 3 main subjects
- First/Third Chance Compartment
- Compartment + Improvement
- Improvement for the students passed by the replacement of the subject.
It is, therefore, clarified that because of any reason if a student is not able to appear in 3 or more subjects in main examination, s/he cannot be permitted to appear in 2nd Board Examination as per policy of the Board. Any request received by CBSE on the above cited subject will not be responded to.
