In exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to Article 309 of the Constitution. the President is pleased to direct that the Indian Railway Establishment Code, Volume-l, Fifth Edition-1985 (Third Reprint Edition-2008), may be amended as in the Advance Correction Slip No.146 enclosed.

Sanctioned strength of cadres
1. Note below Para 110 may be amended as follows:-
Existing Note below Para 110:-
“Provided the total number of sanctioned gazetted post in any grade (Heads of Departments. Additional Heads of Departments, Deputy Heads of Department. Senior Scale. Junior Scale and Group B officers) of the service concerned is not exceeded. the General Managers are empowered to vary solely in the public interest having regard to changes in the work and responsibilities of the posts concerned (and not in the interest of officers) the distribution of posts within that grade for a period of not exceeding 12 months.
May be read as under:-
“GMs are empowered, to vary solely in the public interest, having regard to changes in the work and responsibilities of the posts concerned, (and not in the interest of officers) the distribution of posts within that grade, provided the total number of sanctioned gazetted post in any grade (Heads of Departments, Deputy Heads of Department, Senior Scale, Junior Scale and Group B officers) of the service concerned is not exceeded. Board’s approval will continue to be required for variation of posts of PHODs of the concerned service and SAG and above posts of IRHS and IRPFS.”
