The Union Cabinet has officially approved the formation and Terms of Reference for the 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC). This commission, now formally established, will undertake a comprehensive review of salaries, allowances, and pensions for central government employees and pensioners.

Headed by former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, the commission includes Professor Pulak Ghosh of IIM Bangalore as a part-time member and Pankaj Jain, Secretary of Petroleum and Natural Gas, as the Member-Secretary.

The 8th CPC has been allotted 18 months to deliver its final report, which is expected to impact nearly 50 lakh employees and 69 lakh pensioners. Its review will consider the nation’s economic climate, fiscal health, and comparative pay structures.
