Sub: Rates for Military Traffic

Ref: Rates Circular No.32 of 2014 and its corrigendum dt.16.10.2020

Reference has been received seeking certain relaxation in the Tariff applicable in case of Military Traffic.

The matter has been examined. It has been decided to permit relaxation in charging of Mixed Trains (Coaching+ Goods), by modifying Para 3.3 of Rates Circular No.32 of 2014, as given below-

3.3 Total charge for mixed train should. be worked out for actual number of coaches/wagons used subject to minimum charge for 30 bogie wagons (including a minimum of one coach)

This relaxation will remain valid till further advice.

Total charge for mixed train should be worked out for actual number of coaches/wagons used subject to minimum charge for 20 bogie wagons (including a minimum of one coach)

This relaxation will remain valid for a temporary period of one year. Thereafter, the charging will be restored to the original condition i.e. minimum charge for 30 bogie wagons (including a minimum of one coach).

The aforesaid movement is permitted on trial basis for one year, subject to operational feasibility.

All other extant guidelines will remain unchanged.

These guidelines will be implemented from 16.07.2026 and will remain valid upto 15.07.2027.

This is issued in consultation with Traffic Transportation Dte. and with the concurrence of Finance Dte of Ministry of Railways.

(ii) MilRail’ s letter No.B/18227/111/ADG Strat Mov/Milrail dt.10.06.2026

Please refer to MilRail’s letter under reference(ii) enclosing a letter from ADG Mov/MoD(Army) wherein it is mentioned that Defence Authority has requested to grant waiver to the present costing parameter requirement of minimum 30 wagons/coaches of military rakes, and sought permission to move 20 wagons/coaches.

The matter has been examined in consultation with Traffic Transportation directorate of Railway Board. Extant guidelines holds good and any further relaxation in the minimum formation/costing parameter below 30 wagons/coaches may not be operationally feasible.
