Subject: Enhancement of gratuity limit of Rs. 10 lakhs to Rs. 20 lakhs for the NVS employees retired between 1.1.2016 to 28.3.2018- reg.

Sir,

I am directed to refer to NVS’s letter No. F.1-7/2018-NVS (Admn.) dated 31.8.2020 on the subject mentioned above and to inform that the matter was taken up with Department of Expenditure (DoE), Ministry of Finance (MoF) for their consideration and approval. In response, Department of Expenditure has conveyed that the NVS, an autonomous body, has adopted the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972 in consultation with them and they are of view that it is imperative to adhere to the effectiveness of date of revised ceiling in terms of Government of India decision notified vide Gazette Notification dated 29.03.2018 which is effective prospectively and uniformly applicable in case of all other organizations falling under this Gratuity Act as making any exception for a particular organization may not be in order. Therefore, the enhanced ceiling of gratuity is effective from 29.03.2018.

2. In view of the above, DoE has not agreed to the proposal for enhancement of gratuity limit of Rs. 10 lakhs to Rs. 20 lakhs to the NVS employees who retired between 1.1.2016 to 28.3.2018 and the same is conveyed vide their I.D. Note No. 25(4)EV/2018 dated 19.5.2021 (Copy enclosed).
